Things to know when considering a shelter

    What about access and security?

Our entrance is what sets us apart from any other manufacturer. Anyone in your family can easily open it quickly with a push button key fob from over 400’ away. Additionally, our shelters have the best concealment in the industry and are designed to fit seamlessly into your property (under your lawn, garden, barbecue, or just about anything you have in your yard).  The hydraulic entrance hatch features:

    • Lights that come on automatically.
    • A large stair area with handrails that safely lead you to security.
    • Ultimate security accessible only by you or your family members.

What makes Frost Hill shelters the best available?

Your shelter plans are created by a licensed professional engineer for the State of New York. Every shelter meets the highest required structural standards to ensure a lifetime of safety. Each unit is built to withstand the heaviest soil conditions such as dense clay, silts, rocks, and saturated soil. All shelters are:

    • Constructed using the strongest, highest quality (100% American) steel and structural steel tubing on the market.
    • The structural supports are spaced 24” on/c along the walls, floor, and ceiling.
    • Designed to be mounted to 6’’ of reinforced concrete, backfilled with clean stone, and covered in 12” of additional reinforced concrete.
    • Equipped with a staircase made of steel with diamond plated treads for durability.
    • Sandblasted and coated with ultra-durable industrial epoxy coating to prevent rust.
    • Coated on the interior with a low VOC paint and primer in your color choice.

What is included in a Frost Hill security shelter?

Our Tier 1, 2 and 3 shelters are designed to include all of the comforts of a modern home.

Every shelter’s interior includes a full kitchen, sleeping quarters, full bathroom, and a common area.  Underfloor storage plus a mechanical room is separate from the main living quarters.

    What about power?

Our shelters are designed to work in locations with no grid power.

The standard shelter has a solar system with batteries to maintain lighting, ventilation, and the hydraulic vault doors. We can also grid-tie your shelter to provide power under normal conditions.

Additionally, depending on your unique electrical requirements, another reliable power option is an underground generator pod to provide reliable power in any circumstance. This upgrade includes a large diesel generator with fuel storage and an auto transfer switch.

Why is underfloor storage so important?

Living quarters are spacious, comfortable and uncluttered. All of our shelters include generous underfloor storage which is equivalent to adding 5’ to the length of your shelter (or about 300+ cubic feet). This is in addition to the closets, kitchen cabinets, under bunk storage and pantry included in
the standard main living area layout. Storage areas:

    • Hold up to 6 months (or more) of food and water for a family of 4.
    • Store additional survival supplies and equipment.

Can I use the shelter for other purposes?

Yes! The possibilities are endless.  Our units can be utilized year-round. It’s like adding an addition to your home that is also designed to function as a security shelter.  Shelters can function as a:

    •  Private vault for valuables
    • Hi efficiency Earth-friendly retreat
    • Wine cellar
    • Speakeasy
    • Grow room
    • Gaming room
    • Music studio
    • Man cave
    • She cave
    • Hunting cabin
    • Gun vault
    • Storm shelter
    • Underground parking garage

Can a security shelter be attached directly to my new building or existing house?

Yes, we can work with your builder to determine how to best integrate a security shelter during the construction of your new build. We can also visit your existing home and evaluate the feasibility of integration.

How is installation handled? Is it included in the unit cost?

Every project site is unique; therefore transportation, site preparation, and installation are treated as separate costs. Once the security shelter has been completed at our facility, we will work with you or your site contractor to ensure that transportation, site preparation, and installation are handled properly.

Why is it different from a safe room?

In short: safe rooms are short term, not as impenetrable, and don't contain long term survival components required of a security shelter.
